Resources for aging (manual constructed for the Carolina Living and Learning Center)
What is the CLLC? The Carolina Living and Learning Center (CLLC) is an integrated vocational and residential program designed for adults with Autism Spectrum Disorder. It is located in Pittsboro, North Carolina, and operates under the TEACCH® Autism Program affiliated with the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill. The center spans 79 acres and includes facilities like homes and gardens that support a holistic approach to independence and skill development in areas such as communication, social interaction, and vocational training. This nurturing environment allows residents to thrive by fostering personal growth and autonomy in a structured setting.
Context: During my final fieldwork, I was able to work both with adolescents at TEACCH and briefly with those at the CLLC. While the staff at the CLLC was very experienced in working with adults with Autism, they expressed a desire for resources to support their aging needs. The following manual provides a wide array of resources to support the daily occupations of their residents.
